The Neurotechnology Industry Organization has published a new study highlighting the neurotech clusters in the world.
The 2 top tier clusters are the Greater San Francisco Bay Area and the Greater Boston Area. These 2 regions represent the geographic centers for neurotech innovation, growth and development.
The 4 second-tier clusters are: New York/New Jersey, London/Cambridge, San Diego and Los Angeles/Irvine. Although they are less developed, they exhibit all the necessary ingredients for significant innovation and growth in neurotechnology.
The report also mentions 3 emerging clusters: Baltimore, Philadelphia and Minneapolis. Finally, nascent (to be) clusters are: Montreal, Basel/Zurich, Tel Aviv, Stockholm, Tokyo, Munich, New Haven, Chicago, Shanghai, Raleigh/Durham and Cleveland.

Obama announces $5 billion for new medical research

President Barack Obama devised a plan to spend $5 billion on medical and scientific research, medical supplies and upgrading laboratory capacity. The funds come from the $787 billion stimulus package.
One billion USD will go to research into genetic causes of cancer and potential targeted treatments.
It is expected that this plan will lead to tens of thousands of new jobs.
